Immediate hormonal therapy or orchiectomy is beneficial in men with locally advanced or asymptomatic metastatic prostate cancer

A study in 1997 published in the British Journal of Urology showed that immediate use of hormonal therapy or orchiectomy significantly improved all outcomes in men with either locally advanced or asymptomatic metastatic prostate cancer. This included benefits in disease specific and overall survival as well as a reduction in local complications related to advanced prostate cancer such as less requirement for TURP and less ureteric obstruction. Also there was less spinal cord compression, less pathologic bone fractures and less non bony metastases.
