Erectile dysfunction is common as men age. It is multi-factorial in aetiology. The erection mechanism requires normal penile arterial in-flow, and no venous leak. In addition, arousal and normal hormonal levels are required. Prostate surgery, pelvic surgery e.g. bowel cancer resection, and or pelvic radiotherapy all cause ED.

Drug therapy is effective as is penile injection therapy. However drug interactions and side effects need to be checked and explained to the patient.
